35×45 mm photo: size, pixels and framing
Understand 35×45 mm photo dimensions, print resolution, and why visa and passport requirements are different.
Millimetres and pixels
At 300 DPI, 35×45 mm rounds to 413×531 pixels. Print at actual size: a printer's fit-to-page option changes the physical dimensions.
Choose the document, not just the country
Canada's visa photo specification lists a minimum 35×45 mm frame and a 31–36 mm head height. A Canadian passport uses a different specification. Check your application instructions before choosing a template.
Leave room for a useful crop
Take a front-facing photo with the entire head and shoulders visible. Leave some background above the hair and on both sides. A tight selfie cannot supply details outside its frame.
